The Viral Breakthrough and the Power of Trial Reels

Katherine: I think I got like 4,000 new followers from it.

Max: You got 4,000 new followers on that?

Katherine: Yeah, on Thursday I think I was at 2,400 followers and it’s gotten like a hundred, and I think on the insights, you know, it takes a little lag time, but it’s almost at 180 some thousand views.

Max: Yeah, I can see it.

Katherine: Which is kind of crazy ’cause I almost… and all I did Max actually, ’cause they did the trial reel and the first hook was not getting much traction. So all I did was change the cover photo. Um, not the photo, but I changed the wording on the cover for “the real reason your digestion might be off.” Um, and that somehow took off.

Max: That’s the beauty about trial reels. That’s why we teach it.

Building Community Through Engagement

Katherine: Yeah, it’s such a great… it’s such a great tool. It’s making a huge difference in my growth because a couple of people, I’ve gotten like, I don’t know, a hundred and some comments. I’ve gone through and commented on every comment.

Max: Well, that’s fantastic, Katherine. First of all, congrats. Obviously, you went viral. That’s really awesome. We call it viral at 100k plus views. That’s viral. Below that is like semi-viral and stuff, but that’s good. Second thing is you did the right thing with engaging with your audience. That’s fantastic. That’s probably also a reason why you got so many followers because you truly cared and, you know, you replied back and forth. You built a little bit of a temporary mini-community in the comment section. That was also right.

Authenticity Over Perfection

Katherine: So I teach classes. It’s funny. I wasn’t feeling good that day but I showed up like 15 minutes early before class, and I didn’t feel like videoing at all ’cause I’m like, you know, not dressed up like I normally dress. That’s like not my… and I was like, oh screw it. I’ll just put something on and, you know, people then start walking in and I was like screw it, you know, I had no makeup on, no nothing, and I just… I just went for it. And then I, you know, cut it and did that, and I wasn’t going to post it, which is really funny.

Katherine: So, it’s interesting because I think, you know, sometimes we want it to be perfect, and I think what makes it work is that I didn’t care and [laughter] it worked that way, which is pretty… it’s a great testament just to keep posting because I’ve only been posting since December 16th when I started, and um, my first videos got a couple thousand right away. So, I knew something was changing because before that I was only in a couple hundred views. Um, so yeah, it’s been good.

Embracing the Momentum

Max: Katherine, you’re crushing. You’re like not even a month in and you have a very, very steady growth. You’ve implemented a lot and it’s great that you said it yourself. It’s like authenticity. Authenticity goes such a long way. You don’t need to be perfect.
