From Offline Trainer to Online Success
Max: John, let’s start with what exactly is it that you’re doing? What are you offering your clients?
John: My target group is… I’m saying target group, just because I’m used to it is woman especially, like it could be everyone weight loss. And the goal is to try to achieve that in the most time efficient way using scientific ways. So I’m trying to sell my knowledge, but at the same time what I’m trying to prove them is that they don’t need so much time during the day. They can achieve it in short time without wasting all day focusing on it.
Max: Nice. So basically if you want to summarize our short list, like weight loss coach. Right? Something so common out there but just presenting it the other way.
John: Exactly, exactly.
Max: And that’s absolutely great. And what is the exact thing that you’ve been doing before that wanted you to join freedom business mentoring. Because I know you’re my client but we kind of want to share it here as well because your story is quite interesting.
John: I was training on offline clients. Day and night I would say even seven out of seven sometimes everyday.
Max: Jeez!
John: At some point I was just so tired because I love traveling and I was missing my home as well. Because am coming from Greece, so I wanted to have more free time for myself and that wasn’t possible because the moment I would just leave the room, that means I would make less money. So find a way to make more money online. Then I started trying on my own, but my prices would never be able to support my lifestyle. So I had to find another and then actually I talked to you and Nikita and we got you on board. That’s how do things.
Max: Yeah, that’s very interesting because… Let’s talk about prices because you’ve done it offline first, right? You were like a personal trainers sort of person before and then you said you want to do it online because there’s more freedom, etc. Etc. And your pricing was very off and this is definitely, that was a mindset issue that you’ve had when you started with us. I remember I gave you a little bit of a bad time, which I’m known for for the clients because your pricing was very off. I remember instead of selling a package transformation, I help you lose weight, you are charging these like weird hourly rate type of things and let’s talk about that. How about you talk about that.
John: So in the beginning I couldn’t think how you can actually sell a package. So when I was trying to do it, I was always trying to and relate my offer with hours. So how many hours of work for them. But then I realized that even that way it doesn’t work because then you need to spend again so much time and most of them wouldn’t appreciate it. Because they compare… when you talk about hours, they will compare how they would pay if they meet you face to face for an hour. So again, it would be off and that’s something I had to change completely. It took me a while. It was a mindset issue as well, though I really hard time to accept that. Okay, let’s talk about packages. Let’s make them specific for three months, four months and just go for the end result.
Max: Yeah, I love it. That’s exactly what we’re doing. And freedom is mentoring. We help people how to position themselves properly, how to make a craft a proper offer. And also interesting. You’ve kind of switched your target audience you’re targeting a specific type of person that wants to have premium results, right? You’re not just like… because this is another thing, most people say like, Oh well I can’t be a fitness online coach because there’s the $5 ebook out there. Why doesn’t just a person buy a $5 ebook? Why would they pay me more money to be mentored. And what we did with you, We said, well, let’s position yourself in the premium realm. Meaning we target people that can afford premium prices and now instead of having to sell 400 eBooks for five bucks, you sell to a handful of people but you have high prices. And now you can work with these people, really properly online. You get to get them results and it’s not a lot of work for you to coach them and at the same time you make good money for them and at the same time they get great results and yeah, you’ve been absolutely crushing it.
Overcoming the Online vs Offline Mindset
Max: I want to kind of talk about the online, offline dynamic here because I feel like in your niche with the fitness weight loss stuff, a lot of people say, Oh, it can’t be done online. I need to do it in person. And I remember you had a little bit of mindset issues with that as well, right?
John: Yeah.
Max: Lets talk about that as you talk about in the program as well, it’s how you position yourself.
John: So I changed my approach to, it can happen online to what are you looking for? Do you look for a company? Like to have somewhere for now training you had, but then been gone? Or do you want someone who can actually be there for you The whole month give you advice, give you feedback and in the end of it give you results? Because I don’t know many people that they got results just by seeing someone twice a week for an hour. Because once they get out, they still got questions. They will still wake up next day and they will think, Oh, what should I do now? So it’s different. So my goal was, okay, I give you the results. You have direct access to meet, I can’t help you anytime we don’t have this oh time is off I’m over, I’m done So immediately it was much easier to change my mentality and persuade them as well because I believe in it. And sell them.
Max: Yeah. The interesting thing is too, and we kind of talk about this off camera earlier as well. I used to have the exact same issues, right? You might know this, if you’ve been knowing me for for a longer time, my first business was a dating advice, relationship advice type of business. And I told you earlier as well, I would literally travel the world teaching this offline. And it sounds kind of cool to travel the world teaching this, but it wasn’t really traveling the world and enjoying it. I was just working. I would always just sit the hotel room and the seminar room where I would meet the clients and I wouldn’t even get to see any cities whatsoever cause I was just working the whole time because my time was literally bound. My money that I’m making was literally bound to the time I’m spending with the client. And like you said, the moment I would say goodbye to the client. The money clock would go back down to zero right? And it was interesting because my mentors back then approached me and they said, “Max, why don’t you make an online mentoring program?” And I possessed the arrogance to say, well, that might work for blah, blah, blah, but my niche, I have to teach this offline cause I have to be that person. And there’s so many niches out there, fitness niches as an example, but so many other niches where people say like, I can’t teach this online. I can only teach this offline. And long behold, what I did was my mentors obviously convinced me and I started creating a mentoring program for dating advice. Long Behold, the interesting thing was, the clients that I would get online started getting better results than the offline clients because instead of spending a weekend offline with them in person and then goodbye, good luck, just releasing them into the wilderness. I would have ongoing mentorship. That means they would have ongoing things that they would need to work on. They would have ongoing contact to me where I could give them feedback and at the same time for me it was scalable cause instead of having one, two or three people in one room with me, I was able to teach hundreds of people at the same time. Clients got better results. I had to do less actual work and it was scalable and it’s exactly the same spiel with you right now. You’re absolutely crushing it.
John: In the beginning as well, I had the mindset issue. I just thought that no one pay online, how much they pay offline for the same amount of hours. So if someone trains once a week, Will never pay the same amount for an online course. He’s just there helping, but that’s changed for the way as well. Like after persuading me to increase my prices, I ended up having online clients being more than the actual offline clients monthly. So it was soaking as well because you realize that’s in your mind.
Max: And I remember very well giving you a lot very hard time because he was like, “but the time but the time. “But the hourly rate” and I’m like, forget about hourly rate, give people transformation. And also the one thing I also got mentioning that I love when you tell prospective clients like, do you want to have someone, what was it? To spend time with you offline or do you want to have someone who gets you results? And I say that sometimes too, when people said like, “Max, I want to have time with you” And I’m like, you want us to hold hands and walk down the street laughing or do you want me to get you results right? The end of the day I wanna give my clients results. And it’s very interesting. So yours is a very good example of you had a skill offline, you were doing it offline, was almost like a little bit of a cage You couldn’t travel and now you’re doing it online.
Thriving During the Crisis
Max: And by the time of the recording of this it’s April 2020, there’s a quarantine going on. Unfortunately. It’s kind of sad because now where your business starts taken off, I see you’re stuck in Switzerland. You can’t travel. And you’ve told me so many times before. Like, I can’t wait to travel, can’t wait to travel. Let’s talk about that crisis though because the interesting thing is, the crisis has been going on. The quarantine crisis itself has been going on for about two months now by the time of this recording. And interestingly enough, the first week where everybody started freaking out where everybody was like, “Oh my God, I can’t sell anymore. “People are not going to spend money.” This guy here made 9,000 euros in literally one day. Was it 9,000? I can’t remember. Or eight and a half or something like that.
John: Yeah, exactly. 9.4, nine point 4,000
Max: Tell us about that. Tell us how you just took advantage of the quarantine and you just…
John: So everyone went on the fall situation sadly everyone was afraid. When people are afraid, they are looking for the safe option. So what do you need to do then is to be the safe option. So I already established my value to my clients, even clients they didn’t accept my offer in the past. And then when the constitution started, every trainer just froze, because they couldn’t believe on their landmarks. So they backed off thinking, okay, what should we do? Okay, we will do online, let’s two weeks to see how it works.
Max: Cheap mindset
John: But for me I had the confidence, I had support as well. So I did the opposite. When everything started, I went forward and say, Oh, that’s something I already do. So let’s talk about it. Whoever will come on the call and say “hi, things expensive.” I would say, would you like to try some of this right now? Do you feel safe to try something else right now? No one wants to get into and go to the hospital when you have so many people being sick there. So everyone was okay maybe we can try it. Let’s say any wastage for months, why not? No one believed as well as the crisis will go away. At the same time it was easy for me to look at them and say, no, you cannot go anymore to the gym. There you cannot use the sinks they have instructions, even if they don’t give you results you have safety. But right now, do you actually know how to plan and work out from home? So if you want to be safe as well, you need someone to guide. And it’s up to you if you’re gonna choose someone without knowledge or with.
Max: Fantastic. Fantastic. Yeah. Here’s an interesting point too to all the haters out there. It just doesn’t own, this only works if you have a big YouTube channel and a big Instagram. All right. To confirm with everybody here, do you have a big YouTube channel, John?
John: No I don’t have any.
Max: He doesn’t have any YouTube channel. Do you have a big Instagram account?
John: Nope. I don’t use it though for that.
Max: Yeah, you have like 5,000 followers on Instagram or something like that and you’re not using it.
John: It is personal I don’t post anything about students.
Max: Okay, so there you have it. Okay. Now obviously since John has been doing very, very well, he’s gotten into the advanced program and what we do is usually we get our clients to the first 10 K and we say, okay, you’ve made $10,000 10,000 euros. Now with your offer, then we get them into the advanced program. And in advance program we start building a small nice brand. So what we’re going to do with you is we’re slowly going to start a small YouTube channel, gonna work more on your Instagram, et cetera. And funnily enough, that small YouTube channel that we’re building for you, it will have a couple of hundred if only a couple thousand subscribers. It will still be more lucrative than most influencer schmucks out there with hundreds of thousands of subscribers because we’re going money first, value to your clients first, And slowly but steady we’re building a brand upon that. But again, just to confirm, 18 and a half thousand euros is in a half thousand Swiss francs. No YouTube channel, no podcast whatsoever.
The Strategy Behind Success and Final Advice
Max: So let’s talk a little bit then. How did you get these clients? What was the process?
John: So I tried to, as we say on the program as well, I tried to focus on social media. My goal was LinkedIn because it was more related to my current group. I didn’t have many followers there probably all my posts are like a hundred views kind of 50 views. But as you said, we care about quality views. So I knew that they would follow me there. One of the people that want this. So I started approaching people in the beginning friends of friends, so not really random people, random for me and they didn’t know me I didn’t know them. But I was always looking for common connections. That’s a good part of leading. And then I was just trying to approach and see if I can help them on the same time because as you said, I was working already offline. I went to all my current clients that they had the mindset issue, that oh it can be online and ask them, what about your friends that they are not here? Can you give me some referrals? And when they said yeah, but they cannot come here, I was like, well don’t worry. I will take care of it. Can you give me your files? So I started contacting people that they were from my network, meaning friends or friends. And that’s how it started building up and that’s what I still do. Right now with the advanced program. I’m using all of the social media than before. So now I’m trying to actually make my LinkedIn profile be bigger and better and it works, brings clients instead of me texting them. And the same with my Instagram accounts. Slowly I get people asking me there now that I tried to branding more than before than me text me to anyone.
Max: Love it. Yeah, exactly. That’s what we call manual lead generation. You might’ve heard me talking about this on this channel before soldierly you reach out to people, You reach out to people on LinkedIn, on Facebook and Facebook groups, we give you a DM framework. You’d literally just do what we’re telling you in the DM framework and get people on a call and boom you give them some value on the call and then you can have them become your clients. And again, that’s how you easily get your first 10 K. That’s what we usually do with our beginner clients. And you went from the beginner now with the 18 and a half thousand to more advanced and now we’re going to scale it. And with an offer like this, a six figure amount per month is definitely possible. We’ve seen it before. So a hundred thousand dollars plus a month is possible if you scale it upright and you’re on the perfect path to do so.
Max: Yeah, like I said–
John: You remind me of a story’ just sorry for interrupting you you remind me a story I was traveling, just before I start my program and one of the congress in Italy, while it was in Italy, a guy talks to me while having breakfast in one of the hotels And what I told me back then, I told that I want to travel the world. So he asked me what I’m doing for life and I told him I’m a trainer. He was like there’s no way you can travel the world if you’re a trainer. And every time I sell online and I’m like, Oh, I could actually now be anywhere. I just remember this guy being like payback time.
Max: That’s great. I love it. Its a nice story. What was I gonna say? So what do you think? After working with us work. That always owes out of curiosity. What was the, the biggest thing that you learned from working with us?
John: Mindset
Max: Okay
John: Sales as well Because you change your perspective in some things. Even if you have a little basic, basic things as well. We usually, you learn a lot about sales, but we don’t have structure. So I had the opportunity to organize my thoughts, which is good. In my opinion, mindset because you need to be persistent and you need people to support you. I am a big believer on mentors. So I believe that without a mentor you can’t push yourself to be on that high
Max: Yeah, I agree. Same for me. I mean, I keep mentioning that I’ve mentored myself. They always keep pushing me and without them I wouldn’t certainly not be where I am right now. Also just realized I hold the microphone the wrong way. I should have held it like this. But anyways, absolutely crushing it John, now is there anything else that you wanna mention for someone watching us on YouTube? Maybe they want to build their own freedom business. Any message you have for them?
John: Don’t waste time.

John: Cause we tend to believe that we can do so many things alone. I learned long ago that that’s not true. If you want to use your life properly and use your time properly, always ask for advice. Ask for support. Don’t waste time.
Max: Love it. I agree a hundred percent, many, multiple times a day I feel like an idiot if I ask some my mentors or something like that. But at the end of the day, I get the value and I keep growing from that. And it’s been an absolute blast working with you, John. And it was interesting because my mentors back then approached me and they said, “Max, why don’t you make an online mentoring program?” And I possessed the arrogance to say, well, that might work for blah, blah, blah, but my niche, I have to teach this offline cause I have to be that person. And there’s so many niches out there, fitness niches as an example, but so many other niches where people say like, I can’t teach this online. I can only teach this offline. And long behold, what I did was my mentors obviously convinced me and I started creating a mentoring program for dating advice. Long Behold, the interesting thing was, the clients that I would get online started getting better results than the offline clients because instead of spending a weekend offline with them in person and then goodbye, good luck, just releasing them into the wilderness. I would have ongoing mentorship. That means they would have ongoing things that they would need to work on. They would have ongoing contact to me where I could give them feedback and at the same time for me it was scalable cause instead of having one, two or three people in one room with me, I was able to teach hundreds of people at the same time. Clients got better results. I had to do less actual work and it was scalable and it’s exactly the same spiel with you right now. You’re absolutely crushing it.
John: In the beginning as well, I had the mindset issue. I just thought that no one pay online, how much they pay offline for the same amount of hours. So if someone trains once a week, Will never pay the same amount for an online course. He’s just there helping, but that’s changed for the way as well. Like after persuading me to increase my prices, I ended up having online clients being more than the actual offline clients monthly. So it was soaking as well because you realize that’s in your mind.
Max: And I remember very well giving you a lot very hard time because he was like, “but the time but the time. “But the hourly rate” and I’m like, forget about hourly rate, give people transformation. And also the one thing I also got mentioning that I love when you tell prospective clients like, do you want to have someone, what was it? To spend time with you offline or do you want to have someone who gets you results? And I say that sometimes too, when people said like, “Max, I want to have time with you” And I’m like, you want us to hold hands and walk down the street laughing or do you want me to get you results right? The end of the day I wanna give my clients results. And it’s very interesting. So yours is a very good example of you had a skill offline, you were doing it offline, was almost like a little bit of a cage You couldn’t travel and now you’re doing it online.
Thriving During the Crisis
Max: And by the time of the recording of this it’s April 2020, there’s a quarantine going on. Unfortunately. It’s kind of sad because now where your business starts taken off, I see you’re stuck in Switzerland. You can’t travel. And you’ve told me so many times before. Like, I can’t wait to travel, can’t wait to travel. Let’s talk about that crisis though because the interesting thing is, the crisis has been going on. The quarantine crisis itself has been going on for about two months now by the time of this recording. And interestingly enough, the first week where everybody started freaking out where everybody was like, “Oh my God, I can’t sell anymore. “People are not going to spend money.” This guy here made 9,000 euros in literally one day. Was it 9,000? I can’t remember. Or eight and a half or something like that.
John: Yeah, exactly. 9.4, nine point 4,000
Max: Tell us about that. Tell us how you just took advantage of the quarantine and you just…
John: So everyone went on the fall situation sadly everyone was afraid. When people are afraid, they are looking for the safe option. So what do you need to do then is to be the safe option. So I already established my value to my clients, even clients they didn’t accept my offer in the past. And then when the constitution started, every trainer just froze, because they couldn’t believe on their landmarks. So they backed off thinking, okay, what should we do? Okay, we will do online, let’s two weeks to see how it works.
Max: Cheap mindset
John: But for me I had the confidence, I had support as well. So I did the opposite. When everything started, I went forward and say, Oh, that’s something I already do. So let’s talk about it. Whoever will come on the call and say “hi, things expensive.” I would say, would you like to try some of this right now? Do you feel safe to try something else right now? No one wants to get into and go to the hospital when you have so many people being sick there. So everyone was okay maybe we can try it. Let’s say any wastage for months, why not? No one believed as well as the crisis will go away. At the same time it was easy for me to look at them and say, no, you cannot go anymore to the gym. There you cannot use the sinks they have instructions, even if they don’t give you results you have safety. But right now, do you actually know how to plan and work out from home? So if you want to be safe as well, you need someone to guide. And it’s up to you if you’re gonna choose someone without knowledge or with.
Max: Fantastic. Fantastic. Yeah. Here’s an interesting point too to all the haters out there. It just doesn’t own, this only works if you have a big YouTube channel and a big Instagram. All right. To confirm with everybody here, do you have a big YouTube channel, John?
John: No I don’t have any.
Max: He doesn’t have any YouTube channel. Do you have a big Instagram account?
John: Nope. I don’t use it though for that.
Max: Yeah, you have like 5,000 followers on Instagram or something like that and you’re not using it.
John: It is personal I don’t post anything about students.
Max: Okay, so there you have it. Okay. Now obviously since John has been doing very, very well, he’s gotten into the advanced program and what we do is usually we get our clients to the first 10 K and we say, okay, you’ve made $10,000 10,000 euros. Now with your offer, then we get them into the advanced program. And in advance program we start building a small nice brand. So what we’re going to do with you is we’re slowly going to start a small YouTube channel, gonna work more on your Instagram, et cetera. And funnily enough, that small YouTube channel that we’re building for you, it will have a couple of hundred if only a couple thousand subscribers. It will still be more lucrative than most influencer schmucks out there with hundreds of thousands of subscribers because we’re going money first, value to your clients first, And slowly but steady we’re building a brand upon that. But again, just to confirm, 18 and a half thousand euros is in a half thousand Swiss francs. No YouTube channel, no podcast whatsoever.
The Strategy Behind Success and Final Advice
Max: So let’s talk a little bit then. How did you get these clients? What was the process?
John: So I tried to, as we say on the program as well, I tried to focus on social media. My goal was LinkedIn because it was more related to my current group. I didn’t have many followers there probably all my posts are like a hundred views kind of 50 views. But as you said, we care about quality views. So I knew that they would follow me there. One of the people that want this. So I started approaching people in the beginning friends of friends, so not really random people, random for me and they didn’t know me I didn’t know them. But I was always looking for common connections. That’s a good part of leading. And then I was just trying to approach and see if I can help them on the same time because as you said, I was working already offline. I went to all my current clients that they had the mindset issue, that oh it can be online and ask them, what about your friends that they are not here? Can you give me some referrals? And when they said yeah, but they cannot come here, I was like, well don’t worry. I will take care of it. Can you give me your files? So I started contacting people that they were from my network, meaning friends or friends. And that’s how it started building up and that’s what I still do. Right now with the advanced program. I’m using all of the social media than before. So now I’m trying to actually make my LinkedIn profile be bigger and better and it works, brings clients instead of me texting them. And the same with my Instagram accounts. Slowly I get people asking me there now that I tried to branding more than before than me text me to anyone.
Max: Love it. Yeah, exactly. That’s what we call manual lead generation. You might’ve heard me talking about this on this channel before soldierly you reach out to people, You reach out to people on LinkedIn, on Facebook and Facebook groups, we give you a DM framework. You’d literally just do what we’re telling you in the DM framework and get people on a call and boom you give them some value on the call and then you can have them become your clients. And again, that’s how you easily get your first 10 K. That’s what we usually do with our beginner clients. And you went from the beginner now with the 18 and a half thousand to more advanced and now we’re going to scale it. And with an offer like this, a six figure amount per month is definitely possible. We’ve seen it before. So a hundred thousand dollars plus a month is possible if you scale it upright and you’re on the perfect path to do so.
Max: Yeah, like I said–
John: You remind me of a story’ just sorry for interrupting you you remind me a story I was traveling, just before I start my program and one of the congress in Italy, while it was in Italy, a guy talks to me while having breakfast in one of the hotels And what I told me back then, I told that I want to travel the world. So he asked me what I’m doing for life and I told him I’m a trainer. He was like there’s no way you can travel the world if you’re a trainer. And every time I sell online and I’m like, Oh, I could actually now be anywhere. I just remember this guy being like payback time.
Max: That’s great. I love it. Its a nice story. What was I gonna say? So what do you think? After working with us work. That always owes out of curiosity. What was the, the biggest thing that you learned from working with us?
John: Mindset
Max: Okay
John: Sales as well Because you change your perspective in some things. Even if you have a little basic, basic things as well. We usually, you learn a lot about sales, but we don’t have structure. So I had the opportunity to organize my thoughts, which is good. In my opinion, mindset because you need to be persistent and you need people to support you. I am a big believer on mentors. So I believe that without a mentor you can’t push yourself to be on that high
Max: Yeah, I agree. Same for me. I mean, I keep mentioning that I’ve mentored myself. They always keep pushing me and without them I wouldn’t certainly not be where I am right now. Also just realized I hold the microphone the wrong way. I should have held it like this. But anyways, absolutely crushing it John, now is there anything else that you wanna mention for someone watching us on YouTube? Maybe they want to build their own freedom business. Any message you have for them?
John: Don’t waste time.
Max: Okay.
John: Cause we tend to believe that we can do so many things alone. I learned long ago that that’s not true. If you want to use your life properly and use your time properly, always ask for advice. Ask for support. Don’t waste time.
Max: Love it. I agree a hundred percent, many, multiple times a day I feel like an idiot if I ask some my mentors or something like that. But at the end of the day, I get the value and I keep growing from that. And it’s been an absolute blast working with you, John. We’re going to keep working, right next step is going to be the 25,000, 35,000 and so on and so forth. I wish you all the best with the future traveling.
