How to Become a Mom Influencer in 4 Easy Steps (Ultimate Guide)
Being a stay-at-home mom doesn’t mean giving up on your career goals.
It actually gives you a unique opportunity to make money from something you’re passionate about.
But if you’ve never put yourself out on the internet before, becoming a mom influencer seems daunting at first.
The good news is that you don’t have to figure things out on your own.
There are tons of mom influencers on Instagram making thousands of dollars a month.
If you take a close look at their success, you’ll find that it usually follows the same, proven, 4-step pattern that I’m about to teach you today.
How to Become a Mom Influencer: 4 Steps to Instagram Success
Step 1: Pick Your Niche
Picking a niche is crucial for success.
Being a mom already gives you a super unique angle to work with.
But you still need to niche down and pick a specific type of mom to target with your content.
This makes it so much easier to:
- Find content ideas because you’re only thinking about one type of person
- Gain followers because you won’t post anything your target audience isn’t interested in,
- Make money because you can promote products your target audience wants/needs, and brands targeting your follower base will be eager to work with you
Here are some mom niche examples you can go for (hint: these are just ideas to get your gears turning, pick something you’re good at):
- Budgeting Life – a lot of moms are the unofficial accountants of their households. By sharing tips and tricks to save money while taking care of the family, you’ll appeal to a lot of other moms.
- Work-From-Home Mom – balancing kids and remote work is tough. Share the ways you manage this without burning out, and a lot of people will come to you for your advice.
- Healthy Mom – being a mom is a full-time job, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up fitness. Share workout routines, weight loss recipes, how to find time for fitness, etc.
- Single Mom – real life talks about parenting alone, emotional support, budgeting, building stability, and other vulnerable topics that only single moms can truly understand.
- Newborn Mom – taking care of newborns is extremely challenging, especially for first-timers. Share tips on dealing with recovery, sleepless nights, feeding routines, emotional changes, and other challenges, and people will thank you for it.
- Toddler Mom – easy crafts, learning games, routines, and screen-free ideas. Share how you’re handling these and more with your toddlers.
- Homeschooling Mom – homeschooling is tough because you’re both a parent and a teacher at the same time. So share your learning setup, lesson ideas, organization tips, and even how to track progress.
That isn’t an exhaustive list, of course, but the point is to pick something that you know you can help other moms with.
You might be tempted to pick 2-3 different topics.
But trust me, focusing on one will help your account grow much faster.
Step #2: Learn What to Post
Knowing the struggles that stay-at-home moms face firsthand is a huge advantage.
But that alone is not enough.
To grow on Instagram, you need to learn how to find content ideas, then how to turn those ideas into scroll-stopping reels.
Content Ideas for Mom Influencers
The fastest way to grow on Instagram is to post every single day.
That’s why it’s so important to have a bank of content ideas, so you can keep posting fresh content without running out.
The easiest way to find content ideas that work is to check what your target audience already watches.
Here’s how:
- Go to Instagram search.
- Type in a keyword related to your niche (eg: workouts for moms, homeschool lesson ideas, etc.)
- Watch the viral videos in the search.
- Take note of their topic, hook, and payoff.
- Also, take note of their captions and the comments that people are leaving.
- Rinse and repeat for other keywords in your niche.
This will give you a bunch of good ideas that are already proven to work. All that’s left to do is add your unique spin to it.
Aside from that, here are some content ideas that work well for mom content creators:
Problem → Simple Solution: start the reel by stating a very real problem moms face, then offer a quick solution (bonus points if it’s worked for you personally).
- “I was exhausted by 10am every day… until I changed this one morning habit.”
- “My kids kept interrupting my work calls. Here’s the system that finally helped.”
- “I used to overspend on groceries every week. This 5-minute habit saved us $200/month.”
Controversial Opinion: take a piece of advice that’s considered the “norm,” then offer a strong counterpoint.
- “Waking up at 5am as a mom is overrated. Here’s what I do instead.”
- “You don’t need a perfect routine to be a good mom.”
- “Screen time isn’t the enemy. Unstructured parenting is.”
Relatable: being a mom comes with a lot of hard, funny, and fulfilling moments. Try to capture the best and worst emotions, and create a reel that’ll make other moms go “that’s me!”
- “POV: You finally sit down… and your child suddenly needs everything.”
- “Nobody talks about how lonely stay-at-home mom life can be.”
- “Me trying to work from home while my toddler is ‘helping.’”
Day in the Life: show what being a mom is actually like. Avoid trying to make things look perfect. This content works best when it shows the struggles and reality.
- “A realistic day in my life as a work-from-home mom.”
- “What homeschooling actually looks like (not the Pinterest version).”
- “My chaotic morning routine as a mom of 2.”
Before vs. After: this content builds authority, since it shows how the changes you make improve your routine or lifestyle.
- “Before I had a routine vs. after.”
- “How stressed I was before budgeting vs. now.”
- “My energy levels before prioritizing fitness vs. after.”
Mistakes to Avoid: there are so many mistakes moms have to avoid. So position yourself as someone who’s already learned the hard lessons, and people will listen.
- “3 mistakes I made as a new mom (so you don’t have to).”
- “Things I wish I knew before becoming a stay-at-home mom.”
- “What not to do if you’re trying to work from home with kids.”
Take these ideas, plug in your experiences and personal advice, and you should have tons of content ready to go.

How to Make Viral Reels
Going viral is never a guarantee, even with great ideas.
The idea is the most important bit, but you need these other pieces of the puzzle to give yourself the best chance of going viral:
1. A STRONG Hook
The first 3 seconds of your reel are the most important. If you don’t catch people’s attention here, they’ll scroll past and never see the rest of it.
So take your idea, and find the catchiest way to present things.
You can start by saying the pain point outright, so that people who feel that way will stop to listen.
You can start by saying some SO controversial that people just have to hear the full take.
Or, you can start by saying something so bizarre that people will be curious what your point is.
If you need help, you can ask ChatGPT for ideas. Tell it your script idea, and it’ll give you some good ideas you can try.
2. A Tight Script
If you’re talking in your reel, you need to cut out anything that doesn’t add value.
Unfortunately, people have short attention spans on Instagram.
Cut out anything that isn’t essential to your reel, because that’ll just drag it on.
Take a look at which reels go viral. You’ll quickly notice how precise they are. There isn’t a single wasted second on them.
Not sure what to cut out? You can always ask ChatGPT for help tightening your script.
You don’t have to follow everything it says. But you’ll get great ideas on how to cut down the parts of your script that can be dragging.
3. An Emotional Payoff
People interact with content when they feel something.
Whether that’s amused (because your reel is entertaining), seen (because your reel is relatable), or inspired to take action…viral reels always bring out an emotion.
Content that brings out emotions gets you comments, shares, and followers. Those metrics are what signal to Instagram that it should push your reel to more people.
So before publishing, ask yourself, “How will this reel make my audience feel?”
4. Know Your Analytics
With a great reel idea, catchy hook, tight script, and an emotional payoff, you should have good chances of going viral.
But how can you tell which parts of your reels are working and which ones need improvement?
Your analytics.
After publishing a reel, wait for a couple of hours, then click on “view reel insights” under your reel. You’ll get a goldmine of information you can use to improve.
First, take a look at your view percentage past the first 3 seconds.

This will show you how strong your hook is.
50-60% is decent. Anything below that might need work, while anything above that is doing pretty well.
Then take a look at your average watch time.

If you post a 30-second reel, and your average view duration is only 5-7 seconds or less, that may be a sign your reel is dragging, and you need to tighten your script.
For 30-second reels, try to get your average view duration to 10-15 seconds. For 60-second reels, work for a 15-25 second average view duration.
Finally, if your view count is high, but your engagement rate (likes, comments, saves, and shares) is low, that shows you have a weak payoff.
If people don’t feel anything after watching your reel, they won’t interact with it (even if they watch to the end).
You can strengthen your payoff by:
- Delivering a clear takeaway
- Creating a “save-worthy” moment
- Making the viewer think, “That’s exactly what I do.”
- Adding contrast or surprise
- Showing the consequence
- Ending with a clear emotional beat, or
- Giving a natural interaction hook
Step #3: Get and Keep Your Followers
A lot of people think that many views means many followers.
But that’s not always the case.
If you want followers, you’re going to have to do more than just think about how to go viral. You need to answer the question:
“What will make people want to see more of my content?”
Here’s a few things you can do to keep people coming back for more:
Be Consistent
A lot of people will see a viral video, like it, send it to their friends, but won’t bother to click “follow.”
But, if the same creator shows up in their feed again with ANOTHER great reel, they’re more likely to hit follow this time.
Why?
Because you showed up with quality more than once, this tells people they’ll continue to see great content if they follow you.
It also means that if they don’t follow you, they could miss out on something they’d like to see (FOMO).
So keep your quantity high (post every day), but your quality higher! That’ll earn you followers quickly.
Answer EVERY Comment
Answering all your comments might sound easy, especially if your account is still small.
But, being a mom means you’re busy. As your account grows, you might be tempted to just post content and skip people’s reactions.
That’s a BIG mistake.
Interacting with people gets you more followers AND helps you built trust and loyalty.
So answer every comment and DM.
If you get questions in comments, you can even click on the “answer with reel” button and answer them in a reel. This will encourage more people to ask questions in comments since it shows you care.
Be Authentic
Don’t try to be perfect!
Motherhood is one of those niches where authenticity is extremely important. Moms know motherhood is hard. So if you come off as “perfect,” people won’t relate to you.
So don’t just show the happy, inspiring, and helpful moments. Also show your struggles, breakdowns, and problems you’re working to figure out.
Aside from that, let your character shine through.
Say what you believe, even if it’s controversial, and your people will find you.
Find a Common Enemy
You’ve heard the phrase, “Nothing brings two people closer than a common enemy.”
In social media, that couldn’t be more true.
To get more followers, rally against a common enemy.
This can be unrealistic, Pinterest-perfect moms, guilt culture against moms, outdated parenting advice, or anything or anyone that your target audience hates dealing with.
(Just be careful not to dump on other mom influencers, building a community with them is important to help your account grow.)
When you rant about things like these, people relate to you. They’re more likely to follow because they see themselves in you.
Use Carousels and Stories
Reels mostly reach non-followers.
Carousels reach more followers, and some non-followers.
Stories only reach followers (and people who land on your profile).
To keep your followers happy and engaged, mix in carousels and stories too.
My rule of thumb is that if you’re focusing on growth, post 80% reels and 20% carousels. But once you already have a following, go for 60% reels and 40% carousels to keep your base happy.
These are just some of the ways to build a loyal following.
Read my guide on 12 ways to get more followers if you’d like to learn a few more tricks.
Step #4: Monetize Your Account
Monetizing your account is the most challenging (but most rewarding) step of all.
The good news is you have a lot of options to monetize in this niche.
There’s a lot of products that make life easier for a mom, and a lot of moms are also the financial decision-makers in their homes. That’s why so many brands want to get their products in front of as many moms as possible.
Also, if you’ve done steps 1-3 well, step 4 won’t be too difficult.
Pick how you want to monetize, like one of these methods:,
Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is probably the easiest way to make your first buck on Instagram.
Join an affiliate program, promote the company’s product, and anytime someone buys using your special link, you’ll get a commission.
The best way to do affiliate marketing is to promote products that you actually use. Not only can you promote it better (because you actually like the product), but you’ll be sure you aren’t promoting a scam or awful product.
To check if the brands you use have affiliate programs, search “Brandname + affiliate program” on Google.
If they have a program, it’ll show up, as well as the requirements to join.
You can also find other brands that have affiliate programs in affiliate platforms like CJ, Impact, or Rakuten Advertising.
But a little disclaimer: affiliate marketing is not the most lucrative way to make money on Instagram.
Yes, it’s nice for earning your first few dollars, but if you want to turn your account into a business, you should expand as you grow your brand.
Sponsored Posts
Sponsored posts are when a brand pays you a fixed amount of money for a set of deliverables (eg: 1 reel, 1 carousel, and 3 stories showcasing their product for $200).
Sometimes, brands will reach out to you and offer a sponsored post. Especially once you’ve started gaining followers.
But most of the time, you’ll have to do the outreach and ask brands for collaboration.
Find brands you want to work with, and send them a quick DM or email like this:
Hi [Brand Name / Contact Person],
My name is [Your Name] and I’m a creator who makes [your niche] content for [the brand’s target audience].
I’d love to help you get in front of more of your ideal customers — specifically [describe their target customer] who are already a big part of my audience. I have a total audience size of [X] and my content consistently reaches people who are actively interested in [problem the brand solves / product category].
I’d love to create content for you — whether that’s UGC, Reels, or posts for your social channels.
Here are a few examples of my brand-aligned content:
[Link 1]
[Link 2]
[Link to your portfolio or Instagram]
If you’re currently working with creators, I’d be excited to discuss how we can collaborate.
Thanks so much for your time!
[Your Name]
[Your Instagram handle / portfolio]
The more aligned your followers are to the brand’s ideal customer, the better the chances are that they’ll say yes.
Pricing largely depends on how many followers you have.
The rule of thumb is that you can charge $100 for every 10,000 followers you have.
There are a lot of other factors that come into play, like your niche, deliverables, how much work goes into the content, etc. So check out my full guide to pricing sponsored posts here.
The great thing about sponsored posts is that, if your posts do well and bring the brand more business, there’s a big chance it’ll grow into a regular brand deal.
Selling Digital Products
Digital products like ebooks, lesson plans, budget templates, or workout programs are an awesome way for moms to monetize.
The secret to selling digital products lies in making yourself the authority in your niche.
If your reels are super helpful, moms will start looking up to you for advice. When you release a digital product, they’re far more likely to buy if they already trust you.
Another secret to selling digital products is setting up chatbots.
Chatbots, like ManyChat, can help people with common inquiries. It allows you to send your digital product through DMs whenever people comment on a specific keyword in your reels.

If you’re currently working with creators, I’d be excited to discuss how we can collaborate.
Thanks so much for your time!
